▲ Hyundai E&C Establishes Global Partnership with the UAE’s ENEC, a Key Player in Nuclear Power Plant Construction and Operation
▲ Hyundai E&C will expand its horizons of cooperation as a strategic partner based on the trust and experience gained through the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant
As Hyundai E&C accelerates the expansion of its global nuclear power presence, it is strengthening its strategic partnership with a key state-run nuclear organization in the Middle East for nuclear power plant construction.
On Monday, July 28th, Hyundai E&C signed a ‘Strategic Memorandum of Understanding for Nuclear Energy Development’ with the UAE’s Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) at the Sofitel Ambassador Hotel in Seoul. The signing ceremony, held during ENEC management’s visit to Korea, was attended by key executives from both companies, including Hyundai E&C CEO Lee Han-woo and ENEC Managing Director & CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi.
ENEC is leading the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program and owns the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, the first multi-unit nuclear power plant in the UAE and the Arab region. As the lead construction manager for the construction of Units 1 to 4 of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, Hyundai E&C has proven its unrivaled construction capabilities and risk management capabilities through successful completion of the project within budget and to a highly efficient schedule, earning high praise from the global nuclear power industry.
Under the newly signed MOU, the two companies plan to establish a cooperative framework for potential joint development and participation in new nuclear power projects in the global market. They will cooperate closely in areas such as △exchanging information and knowledge, △reviewing strategic investment opportunities, △exploring opportunities for joint project participation, and △operating regular working-level consultative bodies, and plan to continue in-depth discussions on mid- to long-term cooperation plans across the entire nuclear energy sector.
As Korea and the UAE reinforce their commitment to mutual cooperation in the future energy sector inclusive of nuclear energy, Hyundai E&C also plans to broaden its role as a strategic partner, building on the proven success and mutual trust built through the Barakah project.
A Hyundai E&C official stated, “This MOU is highly significant in that it establishes a practical foundation for exploring cooperative opportunities with ENEC on global nuclear power projects.” The official added, “Moving forward, we will discover new nuclear power plant projects in various regions, including the Middle East, North America, Asia, and Europe, and continue to strengthen our global competitiveness.”
