Hyundai E&C has won two awards at the Green Good Design Award 2023 in the U.S. for its Illumistate’s sculptural seating wall “H Wave Bench” and 3D printed children's playground “The Moon Playground, 3D Printed”. The Green Good Design Award is the world's most prestigious eco-friendly sustainable design award. Judges evaluate entries from around the world in each category with a focus on sustainable design to select the best green architecture, products, and materials. This year, Hyundai E&C was honored as the first and only Korean builder to win two awards in the "Product/Graphic Design" categories.

The Green Good Design Award in America is the world's most prestigious green and sustainable design award, organized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in the United States and The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies in Europe. Being awarded in the green category of the U.S. Good Design Award, the world's premier design award, is a global barometer for assessing the level of sustainability, innovation, and future environmental impact.

Entries in each category from around the world are evaluated by jury members with a focus on sustainable design to recognize outstanding green architecture, products, materials, to name a few. This year, Hyundai E&C was honored as the first and only Korean construction company to win two awards in the Product/Graphic Design categories.

The “H Wave Bench” installed at “Illumistate” is a sculptural seating wall made by utilizing formwork printed with 3D printing technology from recycled plastics collected from the Hyundai Motor Group's R&D process. The installation was highly praised for pioneering the use of recycled plastics (equivalent to 5400 500ml plastic bottles) in architecture and for perfectly harmonized realizing atypical linear forms. The product design had been led by Professor Kim Ki-hyun and his team from the department of design at Korea National University of Arts and Design, who focused on enhancing the aesthetic perfection.

“The Moon Playground” is the world's first children's playground that Hyundai E&C made using 3D printing technology. Due to the nature of 3D printing technology, which directly prints products based on precise three-dimensional coordinates, it is worth mentioning that the installation helped save more than 30% in material and construction time compared to conventional construction method. In particular, Hyundai E&C was praised for boldly demonstrating its differentiated technology as a leading company in the construction sector by directly implementing cutting-edge fourth industrial technology in residential complexes.

Meanwhile, Hyundai E&C has been proving its design competitiveness in the construction sector by dominating various design awards, including being the only Korean builder to win the Ministerial Award for Design Management at the Korea Design Awards last year and achieving a grand slam by winning for four consecutive times, "IDEA", "iF", and "reddot" - the world's top three design awards. Earlier this year, Hyundai E&C especially won the Asia Design Prize for its eco-friendly landscape installation made from recycled cosmetic bottles.
