Q. Please tell us about your job.

I am currently working in the Public Service part of a domestic housing site. Public Service is in charge of internal and external affairs such as on-site licensing, planning, budgeting, ordering, and settlement from the beginning to completion. Internally, we mainly deliver and apply the head office’s guidelines to the site or select and settle subcontracting partners, and externally, we perform administrative tasks for the licensing agency and respond to customers and complaints. 

Our role is accommodating all underlying operations necessary to complete the final object of housing. In other words, I am a coordinator who manages the overall work so that the site operations can proceed smoothly. 

Q When was the most rewarding moment during your work?

The site where I am currently working has become the first site to apply the renewed Hill State Brand sign manual. I was in charge of the sign construction from the ordering stage, and through continuous business coordination with the head office, I applied the new logos and designs to the site in discussion with related departments. The process of drafting the proposal, revising it, and confirming the versions one by one until it was constructed on the site was a wonder. I felt proud that the work I was doing became a reality. The moment when Hill State’s BI and Hyundai E&C’s CI were attached to the exterior wall of the apartment and lit up, it was so thrilling that I can still sense the excitement. 

Q What kind of competencies do you think you need to do your job?

Because Public Service performs various tasks simultaneously and processes them by the deadline, you need the capacity to organize tasks and manage schedules meticulously. Among the numerous tasks handled on site, small tasks that are not classified for a particular department will likely be performed by Public Service. As such, I would say that the most important ability is to manage the business efficiently through the repetitive pattern of taking notes, making plans, and checking them as you go. Also, since many unexpected tasks arise even after careful planning, you need to be quick to judge tasks’ priorities. 

Moreover, I recommend having a humble mindset when dealing with clients or suppliers, a sense of responsibility to follow the head office’s guidelines, and an eagerness to build rapport with executives and employees to resolve on-site problems smoothly. 

Q Is there a corporate culture of Hyundai E&C that you are very proud of?

The greatest strength is the strong bond with the seniors who teach juniors to grow and wait with faith to demonstrate capabilities on their own. When working on site, even at low levels, we are often given tasks that are serious in responsibility and authority. Even if juniors make a mistake, seniors would look out for them and set directions to go forward, allowing them to solve the problem themselves. With this underlying corporate culture, juniors can excel within a short period and cultivate pride as a member of the company. I believe this is the driving force that allows us to develop and grow continuously, and has made Hyundai E&C what it is today. 

Q Could you say a word to juniors who dream of working at Hyundai E&C?

When I was searching for a job, I often heard the words from the elders saying that we need to learn construction at Hyundai E&C, the “military academy of construction.” Such stimulation made me earnestly dream of joining Hyundai E&C, and this eagerness has led to the priceless reward of being accepted.
