Hyundai E&C maintains its reputation in hospital construction 

The Hanmaeum International Medical Center project valued at 165 billion won was designed to build a general hospital (786 beds) of nine floors above ground and four basement levels with the gross area of 109,440 square meters. The hospital, located at the central station district in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, is expected to be the region’s single largest medical institution. The construction commenced in November 2018, and as of November 12, 2020, about 80 percent of the construction was completed. Working on exterior finishing works, the construction site is accelerating its efforts to complete the project by the end of April 2021.

Hyundai E&C has secured incomparable technologies and knowhow with regard to hospital construction for the past five decades. Based on these, the construction site focused on designing the new hospital by adopting environment-friendly facilities and more stringent infection management guidelines to perfectly handle the current pandemic situation. The project site applied clean rooms and air conditioning systems aimed to prevent the infection and transmission of viruses, and installed screen doors across the wards to preclude hospital-acquired infections.

The construction site paid special, careful attention to electric works. As only one second of blackout can endanger lives of patients, they attempted to double track the power line. Even though there is a problem with one power line, the other line can supply power, which can contribute to the stable operation of the hospital. The construction site also introduced emergency generators and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system which can supply emergency power in the event of a power fault or power failure.

The Hanyang University Hanmaeum International Medical Center project is all the more meaningful in the local community, in that the COVID-19 crisis all around the world reminds people of the significance of local medical infrastructure. The general hospital will provide 30 departments and 24 specialized centers such as Robotic Surgery Center, Brain and Heart Center, Fertility Center. The completion of the general hospital is expected to significantly improve the local medical environment through a close cooperation with Hanyang University Medical Center in Seoul and increase relevant jobs, which will lead to invigorating the local economy.
